Girls, Friends, Puppets and Front Porches and a Boy Room in No Particular Order

Charlie has been living in a violet slash periwinkle room with a vast assortment of nail holes and random decorations like a pastel needlepoint bunny among other things since birth. This weekend we filled in all the holes (me) and painted (Sam) the room jade green. Then I spent about 40 hours making him a banner with his name on it. For a not so traditional, not at all southern girl I sure do love names on things. Something about the way names look spelled out in stitching or felt or monograms makes me happy. Check out the nine dollar plate rack below from Goodwill that has been patiently waiting for a home in the basement.

Last Friday was a half day and the girls had friends over as did I. So wonderful to catch up with an old friend and see how gorgeous and amazing that friends little girl has become. She rocked a fedora like no other first grader I tell you. The girls made puppets and had a spectacularly brief puppet show then raced around the house doing girl things. My favorite was watching them mingle on the front porch and giggle.

Thank you Lord for this mild winter and our front porch and for girls and friends old and new and puppets and boy rooms and nine dollar plate racks. Thank you.

  1. What a great room for Charlie! Great job on the banner. Looks so cute. Also, I love the plate rack. What a fun idea.

  2. I'm going to copy your plate rack idea and put my crafty books in it (they deserve to be decorations, too). Now, if only I could find a $9 one...

PS: at first glance at the picture with the puppet being held over the edge of the porch, I thought it was a dramatic re-enactment (or actual) throwing up (puppet yarn? Crayon shavings?). But then, OH WHEW! Just long flowing puppet hair. :)
